3-day tour of Gran Canaria in a motorhome
If you’re planning a motorhome getaway in the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is a destination you won’t want to miss. In three exciting days, you can explore the natural wonders, dreamy beaches and vibrant culture of this island. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
Day 1: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
You will most likely arrive in Gran Canaria by plane (Gran Canaria Airport) or by boat from any other island in the Canary archipelago. When you’re here with your motorhome (your own or rented), head for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital. You can park your motorhome on one of the nearby campsites or in a rest area adapted for these vehicles.
While the beaches are wonderful, we recommend a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town of Vegueta, where you’ll find colonial-era cobbled streets, impressive churches and cathedrals, and fascinating museums to immerse yourself in the local culture. Don’t forget to relax on the beach of Las Canteras and enjoy the Canarian gastronomy (the papas arrugás are a must).
Day 2: Maspalomas and the south of Gran Canaria
On the second day, head to the south of the island to discover the beauty of Maspalomas and its famous dunes. You can park your motorhome at a campsite in Maspalomas and spend the day exploring the golden dunes and the Special Nature Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes. You can also visit the Maspalomas Lighthouse and enjoy a day in the sun on Maspalomas beach. It is nudist in a large area, but the atmosphere is very pleasant and unique. You can also go to Playa del Inglés if you are looking for party and nightlife.
In the afternoon, continue your journey to the charming village of Puerto de Mogán, known as the “Little Venice” of Gran Canaria. You can spend the night here and enjoy the charming canals, seaside restaurants and relaxed atmosphere. It is one of the most charming towns on the island.
Day 3: Pico de las Nieves and circular tour of Gran Canaria
On your last day in Canaria, head inland to explore Pico de las Nieves, Gran Canaria’s highest mountain. From here, you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the island and, on a clear day, you will even be able to see the other islands of the Canary archipelago, mainly Tenerife and its peak Teide (over 3,700 metres above sea level).
After marvelling at the views, continue your circular tour of the island, passing through charming villages such as Tejeda and Artenara, where you can appreciate the authentic Canarian way of life. Stop at breathtaking viewpoints, sample delicious local food and enjoy the island’s tranquil beauty.
Be aware that if you decide to drive the mountain roads of Gran Canaria, la the driving can be quite demanding: lots of curves, narrow roads and big cliffs. If you are afraid of heights, you may prefer to continue enjoying the island’s beaches.
